No crushed ice, just cubes

I only get cubed ice when dispensing ice from the Fountain dispenser set on Crushed Ice. After posting this, I noticed after I dispensed 5 or so large glasses of cubed ice (while set to crushed ice), the ice crusher started working. Any idea what causes this delay?

Check the ice bin and make sure all the parts are moving freely.

It sound like the rod could be sticking.
