Default No Cooling - Plugged Evaporator?
Brand: Kenmore
Model Number: 596.50392001
Age: 5 - 10 years

Freezer and fridge seemed to slowly warm up over time. I've gone through several troubleshooting guides...I cleaned my evaporator, checked to make sure the compresser turns on, and it does....discharge from the compressor is pretty hot, return from the condenser is pnly slightly warm, return from the evaporator to the compressor is cool. So I figure the compressor is good. I checked my defrost system and it seems to cycle through and defrost. I pulled the cover off the evaporator and it's frosted up only on about 3 rows of coils before it stops...and from that point on the coils are cold, but not freezing cold.

Is my evaporator plugged? or is it possibly low on freon? If it is...how much should I expect to pay to get it fixed? If it's plugged up, I'm not sure why it plugged up to begin with, so if I get it fixed is it likely to happen again?.

I guess I'm asking...is it worth repairing..or should
I just replace this 6.5 year old refrigerator?

A frost pattern like that usually indicates low freon. I've no idea what it would cost to find the leak, fix it and recharge the system.
