Theromstat and/or defrost coil, Im no expert but after this happened Im fixing everything in the house, Im a pretty good mechanic, I used to work on Pinsetters back in the 80's so Im certainly not afraid, just usually need a little help with specifics. Next project is our smoothtop range which has a burner that works on high or low but no inbetween, I'm thinking its a control. Let us know how you make out and dont forget to put a meter on that defrost coil, mine read .028.

Default SAME problem!!

I have an Amana SXD23VE

My item is about 7 yrs old...frustrating so many problems recently. Repair guy said even if I was able to clean coils properly that compressor
running hot and may not last long.

Problem remains---once water dispenser on door stops dispensing...that's how
I know freezer no longer operating and of course refrigerator follows suit.
What do you think is problem?
Appliance repair guy not worth what I paid him! Did nothing.

Would prefer to forge ahead and fix problem, given that only 7 years old and
sort of built-in such that cabinet re-work will be a real pain and costly. I'm pretty handy! Thanks for any assistance you can provide.

I replaced the Defrost Timer and the Bimetal Defrost Thermostat. It took about 20 minutes to install, and the unit is acting like a new fridge.
