Unhappy New Used Refrig/Freezer Wont cool
Brand: Kenmore
Age: 1 - 4 years

I just bought a new used refrigerator/freezer side by side. It had been sitting for approximately 11 months with the doors closed. It worked before it went in storage. When I got it it was full of mold. I cleaned it out and got it looking new again however, when I was cleaning around one of the lights it blew the light out. Then when I went by it again with a wet sponge it sparked. It seemed that the compressor was working, (I don’t' know for sure though because it had only been on for about a half hour).

Anyway, I unplugged it until I finished cleaning out the mold. Then plugged it back in. I put all my food in it and 8 hours later all the semi frozen food was melted and the refrigerator was still not cold. It seems to be a little chilled but not cold. I had the temperatures set at 5 for both when I went to bed and this morning I put them up to 6 to see if it would cool.

Well long story short I don't think I've heard the compressor come on again at all except for the first time that I had it plugged in. I'm not sure what to do at this point. Could it be a freon problem? The back of the refrigerator has a silver coating on it so I can't really see in back of it. Help. I don't want to be a sorry you get what you pay for victim.

If there is an electronic control in the fridge you have likely done damage to it when you seen the ark.

Can you please supply the model number of the fridge?

You will find it on the inside of the fridge section on a tag with the serial number.

Thanks for replying. Your the only one who replied so far. I don't know what the model number is yet. I'm at work and can't get it until tonight. I'll check and get back with you. Thanks again for replying
