Unhappy Need help ASAP
Brand: Kenmore
Model Number: 72262100
Age: 5 - 10 years

I have a Kenmore 72262100 frig that is giving me trouble. The freezer is working great but the frig is barely cold. I pulled the bottom tray out of the freezer and there was tons of ice. I got it out and found that one of the holes that goes to the frig was completely iced over so I cleaned that out. It has been 16 hour and the frig is barely cold. The only change is that water is not dripping in the frig any more. Please help!!!

Oh I also vacumed the under side of the frig and saw no water in the drain pan

The fridge gets its cold air from the freezer through a vent between the freezer and fridge. There is a flap you adjust with the fridge temp. control. Make sure it's open.

If the evaporator coils behind the back panel of the freezer are icing up because of auto defrost failure that will stop the circulation of cold air and eventually affect the freezer too.

check defrost timer, defrost heater, defrost thermostat

Ok here is what I did - I pulled the freezer tray out and of course there was ice building up again and the drain hole that leads to the drain pan was frozen with ice. I poured hot water over it until it finally drained into the drain pan under the frig. Once water followed I turned the frig and freezer back on and closed the doors. It has been running for about 3hrs and the freezer is nice and cold but the frig is not as cold as I would like. I noticed that I haven't herd the unit cut off at all durning this time. Is this normal or does it mean there is something more going on?

My husband is the type to just give up but I am on a mission to beat this thing.

Whats the next step to take?

If the unit had warmed up it would take longer than three hours to cool down but check to make sure the damper which lets cold air from the freezer blow into the fridge is open.

Ok so my frig finally cooled to the right temp and the freezer is working the way it should but now several days out when it comes on the cool it makes a lot of noise and then when it shuts off it makes a louder caclunk than normal. Does this mean its on its last leg? Should I try and repair it or is it just better off to buy a new one.
