I am trying to repair my side by side GE fridge. I believe there is a problem with the defrosting as it has frost on the back of the freezer. I have defrosted it and dh replaced the defrost timer before he gave up on it. But now the back of the freezer is frosted again and the fridge temp is in the 60's and the freezer is usually in the high 20's or low 30's. I wonder how you can tell which is the problem: the defrost thermostat or the defrost heater? Any help would be appreciated.

Without a meter, I would replace both defrost heater and thermostat.
