Default Montgomery Ward 23 chest Freezer control HELP!
Brand: Other
Model Number: Delux 23
Age: More than 10 years

Recently inherited a used 'Montgomery Ward DELUXE 23 Chest Freezer' in decent shape. It did NOT run so I paid to have a tech. evacuate and recharge it with R-12 and make it "food ready!" Now it runs GREAT and is COLD! That was not cheap, but allot cheaper than a new one and these old ones are built like TANKS!

The problem is the label and the tag BOTH Say in the features that it has a "temperature control" to adjust the freezer temperature. I can find NO such control. It reads as if there is to be a "knob" like in a home or commercial freezer that you can turn from like 1 to 10 to adjust the temp.

There is a hood light, baskets and the white box at the back that houses the compressor you can see in the back. I have followed all the wires and tubes, and there seem to be NO control.

The reason I ask is that while it is cold and works great (it's below -10 oF now ), the compressor runs 24/7 and never cycles off. I feel that if I could adjust the setting on a thermostat, as the instruction on the inside tag imply, that it would cycle? Please help. Where is this temperature control and how do I find or adjust it if it is NOT just a 'knob-type' thermostat like on our fridge?

If it is NOT a human adjustable knob, where is it, how do i adjust it as the info tag says ("adjustable interior control") and how do I replace it if it is bad?

Thank you ALL in advance for the help. I cannot afford the $$ guy to come BACK out and charge me a trip charge to show me what I think you guys could tell me? THANK YOU! ~cpswarrior

Don't believe you can get parts for this. Look behind the panel in the freezer for a control, probably bad.
You can replace this with a constant differential control pn GC 506. If no control, you might have to wire this control in series with the compressor.

Thank you for taking time to answer so fast.

I am hoping other will do the same, possibly someone with THIS or a similarfreezer (as it looks like the body and same design of dozens I have now looked at on eBay and Craigslist in their pictures anyway)

"The panel" is a little vague, however. There is NO panel or I would assume a control know there. The entire inside is smooth white metal, save for the tiny drain hole, the light under the plastic light cover, and the 'hump' where the compressor is housed inside the back, visible as the 'hump' as a square box inside (with no controls or openings I might ad.)
The TAG inside on the roof of the door, and on the back of the unit, both specify that this freezer has a "temperature control to adjust it for the best possible setting" or something to that effect.

HELP!
