Default Maytag Refrigerator
Model Number: MTB1956GE
Age: 5 - 10 years

Hello,
I have a Maytag MTB1956GE refrigerator. The lights and fans seem to work, however, the freezer and the fridge itself don't get cold. Any help would be great. I can honestly say I am not happy with Maytag appliances.
Mike

If the compressor is not running it may be that the relay or the capacitor is bad depending on your model series.

On your model number tag there should be a series number.

The also should be a letter at the end of your model number that indicates the color of the fridge.

I pick B so I could give you a exploded view of the fridge.

Here is the view of the fridge.

You probably have a bad start relay. Just pop off the compressor cover and remove the ptr relay. It has two wires to it. If it rattles when shook it is bad. You can also check it for continuity to verify.
