Default Maytag - Rear crisper shelf support
Model Number: MSD2456GE
Age: 1 - 4 years

I have the Maytage side by side fridge MSD2456Ge and the rear "shelf support plastic brackets" broke off. I ordered some part to fix it PS114281 Crisper Drawer Shelf Support and screw.

The problem is that the material to screw it into is a foam material that is not supporting the screw. Is there a part missing behind the support or is this not the right part (although it seems to be)

Do I need to drill into fridge??? I hope not.

Please let me know. THanks

Remy

Is the support the same as the one that broke?

Was there a screw in the old one?

Can you give me your serial number?

The model # is MSD2456GEW
Serial 10551199ZF

made in Newton, USA

I think the old piece seemed to be going inside the fridge in a way and I don't remember a screw in it. I no longer have the piece that broke off. Could it have been glued??

Sheila,

Would you have any other suggestions for the rear shelf supports. Did I purchase the wrong part?

For future reference to anyone who comes here searching for a solution to this issue...

On many refrigerators it's possible to support the rear portion of the top crisper shelf using bailing wire. I know it sounds ugly, but it works and will get you by until you can find some other way to fix the broken shelf support.

1. Remove the shelf.

2. Cut yourself about 3 feet of galvanized bailing/fence wire. The shelf will be hanging from this wire when you're done. Wrap one end of the wire around the rear shelf somehow and twist the wire together securely. On my Maytag, the rear of the shelf has two cantilevered supports sticking out which work perfectly for this.

3. Put the shelf back in the refrigerator with the wire pointing upward.

4. Feed the wire through one of the two steel upper shelf support brackets on the rear wall. Pull the wire taught, then twist it together securely and you're done!

Found the Maytag rear crisper support repair.
The maytag number is 61005050 ( this number is a new number per maytag )
The maytag previous number is 12001771.
Some maytag parts dealers still have the old numbers in stock and when inquiring if they have this part give them both numbers.
