Default Maytag heater assy solid ice, fridge warm
Brand: Maytag
Model Number: msd2756dew
Age: 5 - 10 years

I have a Maytag Plus 6 years old or so....the evap heater assy is solid ice in the freezer...I am not sure whether to replace that or the Defrost Assy Adaptive in the Fridge.......Is the heating element attached to the evap heater assy or is that separate? Help...Thanks...

Hi,
I'm no expert on this, but I just did my Maytag model MSD2556AEA, It looks very simalar to your model. On mine I manually defrosted and pulled the "removable" heating element and ohm checked it and I got a reading ( I was told any reading shows that the element is good) So I ordered the Defrost adaptive and installed.. All has been working great...

If none of the "pros" answer, If you do a search here you should find a thread/s that tells you what reading the element will give you and also how to jumper the control board to see if the heating element get hot which tells you that its good and that the adaptive is bad... It's been about 2-3 months since I did mine...

Hope this helps
Ron

With the freezer cold, check resistance of defrost thermostat, then defrost heater. If both ok I just replace the adaptive defrost board located in top of refrigerator.
