Question Maytag Fridge making clicking noise and compressor whining
Brand: Maytag
Model Number: MSD2732GRS
Age: More than 10 years

I have a Maytag refrigerator model #MSD2732GRS that is making a clicking noise right before the compressor tries to turn on. The compressor is whining after the click. Is this something that I can repair myself or should I call a repair expert.

Thanks

Sounds like a compressor going sour. Remove start relay from side of compressor and see if it has continuity, if not replace. Only use the part they supply under your model #. I usually check both windings of compressor ist, you may find one open or shorted to ground. Also don't let this short cycle for long, it could damage the compressor.

Guys,

I solved my own problem by changing out the overload/Run relay and the start-up capacitor on my Maytag. This solved the problem. The compressor was fine and the refrigerator is operating. Best 70 bucks I've spent in a long time
The parts are very easy to change yourself. Safety tip....Just be sure to unplug the unit before you begin working.
Good Luck

Default Same buzz noise after replace overload relay/capacitor

hello is overload relay same as start relay ? I replaced overload relay next to compressor (~$30) and it's still doing the same. It seems that buzz sound is coming directly from inside of compressor. Is this an indication of a bad compressor ? I felt bad that this frig is still relative new.....

Well I'm not sure on your unit. I am not in the appliance repair business

Prior to me calling for a service man, I witness some arcing going on inside the small relay casing which was making the clicking sound. That small relay was failing internally and beginning to flash. After I changed the part I broke it open to find the ceramic was broken into pieces and charred markings internally on the casing.
I suspected that was probably the problem from reading some of the thread. Afterward I went to the parts tab and located my parts using the schmatics and outline drawings provided on my units...
I figure this was a cheap approach for me prior to calling out the professionals. I was lucky that's all it was.

Sorry! Good luck
