In the past 6 months my Kenmore Coldspot refrigerator has begun to make a loud rattling noise that I believe is related to the compressor. It seems that when the compressor shuts off, the refrigerator give off this loud noise like someone shaking up a very large spray paint can(sounds like a large ball bouncing around inside a large cooking pot). Is this normal? Can it be corrected or is it time to put this unit out to pasture?

Hi,

I would guess the noise is coming from inside the compressor.

I know of refrigerators making the noise for years and years, yet they still cool fine.

The only fix would be to replace the compressor.

How much does it cost to replace the compressor? Is it better to just buy a new one.

the compressor might have a broken mounting spring inside, which is not repairable. compressor time!!!
