A loud buzzing sound intermittently comes from the top of the refrigerator compartment on my Magic Chef fridge. Came with the apartment so not totally sure of the age, would have to say new within 3 years though and in very good shape.
When the noise happens it sounds like an old washer buzzer. Definitely coming from the top of the refrigerator compartment. If I touch the light bulb the noise becomes quieter for a short period of time and then starts again. Simply unplugging the fridge then plugging it back in after 5 seconds makes it stop until the next time.
Anyone else experience anything like this? I'm going to call a repairman tomorrow and check with my landlord to see if it's still under warranty or anything like that.
Let me ask you a question. Is your Ice maker hooked up? If you have a ice maker in the freezer, and the icemaker is not hooked up to water, and the icemaker is on, the buzzing noise is the water valve coming on, with no water coming to it. If so flip the metal arm up and the ice maker will be off. The other thing it could be is the evaporator fan motor. If you need me you can reach me at ApplianceEducator.com Tom
There is no ice maker on this unit. It's coming from somewhere in the refrigerator ceiling assembly, near the light bulb in the front. Doesn't seem to be affecting performance at all, just very startling and annoying when it does happen.
