Unhappy Light out on side by side ref. side only
Brand: Whirlpool
Model Number: gs5shaxnq
Age: 1 - 4 years

Last night out of no where the light went out on the fridge side only and there was a clicking or buzzing sound coming from the back of the unit, only when the door is open though. Not only the light but the temperature control digital display went out also, but the fridge still stays cold. If anyone has any idea what this is I would appreciate it so much if you would share with me. Thank you, Ralph

Default Same issue

My whirlpool is doing the same thing. I bought new bulbs, replaced the switch at the door, replaced the control box (where the digital control is located) and still nothing. I have been at this for 6 months now. I just noticed last week that when I take out all the bulbs, the digital display comes on. But when I put any bulbs in, the display goes out. I am now thinking it is a short or defective electronic part that doesn't like the load being put on it. Now the question is what is that part? Let me know if you find out anything.

Thanks,

Brad

Will do and you do the same. Its got to be a short the buzzing has stopped even when I open the door so it has to be something very simple. Ill keep you posted. Thanks, Ralph

I think I may have found our answer. Here is a link to another post which describes what were going through, and a possible answer.
