Exclamation Leaking replacement water valve
Brand: Whirlpool
Model Number: MTB2456AEA
Age: 5 - 10 years

We ordered part number PS10869 on 3/18/07. We did
receive the part in good condition, however upon
installation we realized that the new part and the
original part were not exactly the same (one of
the fittings went from a threaded design to a
nonthreaded design). As a result, the non threaded
fitting on the valve was leaking around the water line. Is there anything
that you could recommend to make the connection leak
proof? Do we need to order a new water line as well? I did
notice that the water line part number has changed as well
from the original. Please let me know what you
recommend. (refrigerator model number is MTB2456AEA)

The water line should be fine. A new line would be the same diameter.

Take the water line out and reinstall it.

It may not have been pushed all the way in as per instruction sheet.

What about the fact that the replacement valve is physically different than the old one? The old one had a screw in compression fitting whereas the new one has a barbed push-on fitting. Can you verify the fact that that new water hose should be of the same diameter as the original? Again the manufacturer has changed their part numbers for both the valve and the water hose, which leads me to believe that the specifications of each are significantly different to warrant the change in part number. Can you send me a spec sheet for the water hose which you offer for purchase?
