Default Kithenaid defroster problem?
Brand: KitchenAid
Model Number: KSSS48QMX
Age: 5 - 10 years

Like Jovacor's post I think I may have a defroster problem.

SItuation... every 1-13 days freezer appears to go through a defroster period but forgets to freeze. remains from 26-32 degrees. We have to manually reboot, that is turn off the freezer with the temp controller then turn back to cool. All the while the refrigerator side remains at normal temp.

Repair man??? says its either a control valve within the compressor (ie requires a new compressor) or a freon leak. To trouble shoot he suggest he weld a valve into the line to check the freon pressure.

I would think this unit would have a circuit board of some type that controls timers and such? any advice?

Thanks in Advance for any help.

Remove the back freezer panel and tell us what you see. If entirely frosted you have a defrost problem, partial freezing you have refrigeration probles best left to a qualified service person

Thanks APPguy. More info on problem it's a side by side built in model Coils are all on top and have been cleaned. From what I can see underneath, there doesn't appear to be a drip pan to catch any condensation moisture from any coils that might be located on the back of the freezer side. Since I just rebooted the system and it is now working again do you recommend waiting till it stops freezing and then pull out the unit to see what coils are frozen?
