Default Kenmore/Whirlpool Fridge not Cooling
Brand: Kenmore
Model Number: 106.54689300
Age: 1 - 4 years

Over the last two to three days we noticed the refrigerator side was slowly getting warmer until last night it was very close to room temperature. The freezer side seemed fine, but possibly a little warmer than normal as we noticed the ice seemed a bit melted. The fan seems to run all the time, but not the compressor (if that's possible) and while I could feel air moving into the freezer compartment, the vents in the refrigerator side had no air coming out. My wife noticed there was some ice build up on one of the coils you can see through the vent on the freezer side.

Overnight it seems to have resolved itself as the fridge side is back to proper temp and I can feel air moving from the vents now. The ice that was on the coil last night is also gone.

Is this just a simple de-frosting issue? Is there anything I can do to prevent this from happening in the future?

It is likely the control that is failing.

Did you shut the fridge off at any point while you where checking it over?

Here is a link to the parts of your fridge model 106.54689300.

Thanks Sheila. It's been about 2 and a half weeks and the fridge has been working just fine, like there never was a problem. I never removed power from the unit, but I did run the built in diagnostics and everything checked out ok.

Thanks for the link, if the problem returns I'll need it, but I'm hoping I don't have to!
