Question Kenmore Side by Side - Broaken/Bent Door Bracket
Brand: Kenmore
Model Number: 10652562100
Age: 5 - 10 years

The top door bracket on the fridge (right) door is bent/broken (from my son hanging on the door). The result is that the fridge door touches the freezer door at the top, but is properly placed at the bottom.

Looking at the bracket where it is attached, it looks like the piece in the door itself, not the external bracket has broken so now the door 'wobbles' with a good bit of give on the top bracket.

My Question:

Any ideas how to fix this without replacing the entire door?

Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

Josh

What you need to do is replace the thimble- top. The part # is 2182181. Take the upper hinge off, and pry out the thimble-top, which is where the hinge sticks in to, and then push the new on in, and put it back together. If you need me you can reach me at my website at ApplianceEducator.com Tom

Tom - thanks for the advice. I want to confirm on the thimble - the metal around the thimble is torn as well, do I need any sort of casing or reinforcement around the new thimble?

Looking at that thimble on the parts list it comes all in one piece. Tom ApplianceEducator.com

Tom - The metal bracket that the thimble sits in is broken off (the foam is a little mashed as well). Do I have any choice but to fabricate a new piece of metal and screw it into the top of the door? - If you'd like I can email you an image of what I'm talking about.

Thanks again for your input.

On a side note - I can't believe whirlpool/kenmore designed this with that much of a weak spot.

Yes, a picture would be great. Because when I see a picture of the thimble, it does not show a bracket. The picture I am looking at is a Sears Parts. Tom ApplianceEducator.com
