Default Kenmore leaking water onto floor
Brand: Kenmore
Model Number: 363.9738510
Age: Please select

Hi,

My Kenmore suddenly started leaking water onto the floor at least once per day. It seems to happen when the freezer is defrosting, but I'm not positive. I turned off the water to the ice maker, so I know it's not that. Anyone have any ideas on what's causing this and how to fix it? Thanks!!

during the defrost cycle the melted ice drains through a drain tube to the evaporator pan underneath. The bottom of the tube gets stopped up with all the dust under the fridge. When the water can't drain it sits in the freezer and freezes or runs out the door. Under the freezer should be a drip pan with the drain tube located at the back of it. It may be covered by ice.

Thanks Woodchuck!

I found the pan in the back of the fridge, there's a trap at the top of the hose that you mentioned. The trap was clogged, and once I cleaned it out it seems to have fixed the problem.

Another question I have is how often it the freezer supposed to defrost? Seems like mine does every day. While I had the fridge out, I brushed and vacuumed off all of the dust on the coils, etc. Hopefully that will help a little too. Thanks again!!

This refrigerator defrost timer will cycle for twenty-five minutes after every six hours of run time. According to Parts Select.com
