Default Kenmore kicks breaker off
Brand: Kenmore
Model Number: 1068730980
Age: 5 - 10 years

Just picked up a Kenmore from a lady, said it was kicking her breaker off just all of a sudden,so she placed it in the garage.Brought it home and its doing the same thing here.Have back panel off and ready to follow some diagnostic advice.Coils seem to be fairly clean and there seems not to be any burnt wiring as of yet.Have settings on 3 and b for thermostat ,as posted in refrigerator. Please advise on what it may be,I have located the start overload relay and compressor and fan. Thanks in advance.

The reason it is blowing the breaker is because the compressor is drawing locked rotor amps. Now here is what I would do. Other people might tell you to replace the overload and relay, but I would buy a hard start Kit. The part # is RCO410. Follow the instuctions on the installion, and then give it a try. Also before you do anything, pull the control panel, and look for burn't wires, and also look in the back for burn't wires. You could possibly have a power wire hitting metal. If you need me you can reach me at my web site at ApplianceEducator.com Tom

Wink

Another possibility is the defrost heater my be shorted. Remove evaporator cover.
