Default Kenmore Ice Maker Not Working
Brand: Kenmore
Model Number: 106.54536400
Age: 1 - 4 years

Greetings!

We have a Kenmore, Model 106.545636400, and the icemaker doesn't work. And yes, we made sure the arm is in the lower position!

When we first observed it wasn't making ice, we also saw that the filter light was red and in need of replacement. We replaced it immediately. That still did not fix the problem. We do get plenty of drinking water, just no ice.

We SUSPECT there might be a clog in the icemaker water line. Is there any way of verifying this is the case? If this is the case, could a warm blow-dryer fix the problem or would that make things worse?

Also, could manually adding water to the icemaker (to see if it works) help anything, or could that also make things worse?

Thanks in advance!

Joey

There are a few thing that you can check:

1. Check and see if the fill tube to the ice maker is frozen.

If it is frozen you can use a hair dryer to defrost it.

2. You can add water it the ice maker to see if it will cycle.

The ice maker holds about 7 onces of water.

3.Check the valve at the back of the fridge.

You will need an ohm meter to check the resistance.

You should get a reading of about 37 ohms but this will depend on the wattage of the solenoid.

There are two solenoid one is for the water dispenser and the other is for the ice maker.

Here is a link to the parts of your fridge model 106.54536400.

Is this the visible tune that I can see from inside the freezer?

Can I just fill it until it overflows? Or will that be too much water?

Do I need to unplug the fridge, and take apart the back piece behind it to get to the valve? (I am not at home now.) Will I be able to see the contacts where I want to test resistance across?

Thanks very much!

Joey

Yes you will be able to see the fill tube in the freezer.

If you over fill the ice maker you may damage the ice maker.

Yes you should unplug the fridge and take the back cover off the fridge.
