Default Kenmore ice-maker makes dirty ice
Brand: Kenmore
Age: 1 - 4 years

When I thaw the ice made by my Kenmore fridge, I notice that the water is cloudy with a distinct white-ish "sludge". It's sort of hard to see but it is definitely there. It does not come out of the water dispenser though - this water is fine. What is stranger is that I've had this problem with two Kenmore ice-makers models (both provided with my apartment rental). These were both brand new fridges using brand new water filters (one installed myself).

Has anyone had this problem?? Does anyone know how to fix it?

Hi,

I would take a look at the water line that runs up to the ice maker.

Wouldn't the water line have cleared out though? I've tried emptying the box several times to see if it would fix the problem but it hasn't. This problem has also occurred with more than one fridge!

Default Ice-maker makes dirty ice

We are having the exact same problem with a Whirlpool icemaker. The water out of the water dispenser is sparkling clean, but when ice from the ice make is melted there are while sludgy things floating in it. We have had the refrigerator for about six months and have dumped lots of buckets of ice, but the problem does not seem to be getting any better. The water coming out of the water line in the wall does not have this problem, so it has to be somewhere in the ice maker. Also does not have anything to do with the in-door dispenser, as it has the same problem when the ice cubes are pulled from the bin by hand.

Any help would be appreciated!

Default Solution found?

I think I found a solution! I should have posted it sorry...

I found that it isn't the water that is the problem: it is the air!!! I did an experiment by putting water in an open container and water in an airtight container. I placed both containers in the freezer and lo and behold, the open container's ice was cloudy upon melting! Please try this yourself and let us know what you find.
