Unhappy Kenmore frig water / ice in door stopped and the freezer is losing the cool
Brand: Kenmore
Model Number: 253.57388600
Age: 1 - 4 years

I came home to a huge puddle on the fllor. No water coming out of the door, no ice left (still has power to the dispenser) and the freezer does not seem to be cooling. I can a hear the frig running but am afraid the fridge side is getting warmer too. This is a side by side. Someone I work with had a similar problem and it was the mother board. Can you tell me where to start to trouble shoot this?

Thanks,
Gayle

Check to see if the condenser fan at the back bottom of fridge is running.
Is the compressor motor near that fan running.
Are the coils warm ,cold or hot.

Is the evaporator fan in the freezer running. It blows cold air into the fridge side through a damper in the wall between the freezer and fridge. Make sure the damper is open.

Below the evaporator fan is the evaporator coils. Remove the back cover in the freezer to observe the frost pattern. stopped up? clear? ice in one spot . frost everywhere.

If the compressor (big black round motor under the unit) is running and the coils near it are room temp, you have compressor trouble.

Try having someone listen at the compressor and turn the cold control all the way to off(warmest setting). Then when it's turned back to cold notice if there is any click or other noise at the compressor. It could be a bad capacitor, starter ,relay, overload switches.
