Default Kenmore Frig - Frig side warm, freezer side cold
Brand: Kenmore
Model Number: 71182101
Age: 5 - 10 years

I have a Kenmore Coldspot bought in 2002. I recently had a problem with water dripping onto the refrigerator shelves from above. After finding this post and an answer to my initital problem...I have another. ever since I opened up the back panel ato defrost the freezer, my refrigerator is only slightly cool (not warm). I have been reading through the discussions here and have not found a solution yet. Any ideas?

Thanks!

Default poor air flow

sound like you mis-aligned the cover panel you removed there can't be a gap the cold air must travel up the back wall if you will and flow over to the frig side

Default panels

if you removed the longer metal panel this is the one that needs your attention. This panel should fit just slightly behind the top plastic panel to insure proper air flow from bottom of evap-coil onto the frig section with no gaps hope this helps.

Default fan

after removing the panels...everything seems to line up. I can feel sold air coming from the two smaller side holes, but the fan inside the freezer (that will push air into the frig) is not kicking on. Ideas?

Check evaporator fan. Refrigerator Repair Guide: How To Test the Evaporator Fan - ACME HOW TO.com

Door has to be closed for it to work. Hold door switch when you have it open.
Fan won't run if it is in defrost cycle.

Default defrost cycle

I am not sure that the freezer is going through a defrost cycle. (Sorry for all the questions, but I am new to this and am trying to figure this out on my own). Since the fan is not running and when I last checked the coils in the back of hte freezer wer eslightly frosty. Is this indicative of a problem with a sensor or something?

With everything working properly it still won't cool right without the fan running to circulate the cold air in the freezer and fridge. some frost is normal because the moisture in the air is removed by freezing it on the coils. About every 8 hours the defrost system will melt the ice. Frost on only the lower or upper coils is a sign of low freon. the frost should be evenly distributed on the coil.
