Default Kenmore Fridge Lights Flashing Breakdown
Brand: Kenmore
Model Number: 596.77533600
Age: 1 - 4 years

I tried searching the forums but can't seem to find any answers to my specific fridge problem.

My Kenmore Fridge (Bottom Freezer, Double Door Fridge) is almost 2 years old.

We noticed after supper yesterday that the water and ice maker stopped working. I dumped the ice out, re-set everything and nothing happened. But the fridge was still working as was the freezer.

Two hours later, my husband tried pressing one of the digital buttons on the front of the door and all lights started blinking and the door flap to the ice maker continuously flapped open and closed. The fridge and freezer were still running.

We unplugged it and my husband opened the panel were the circuit board is (? not sure if that describes it right) and he disconnected something that made the lights go off but allowed the fridge to still run. Only problem was that we realized without having the digital screen, the fridge would not likely cut out because it wouldn't know what the temp. was. So we unplugged it, unloaded it and called a repair man.

Problem is, no one can come to check the fridge for over a week and assuming we need a part, it will likely be longer before it is repaired.

Does anyone out there have any suggestions as to what the problem could be?

My husband is handy but doesn't have any specific fridge repair experience!

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Hi there! I'm sorry to hear you are having the same issue. I haven't heard anything yet at all from anyone.

My husband spent nearly an hour last night on the phone with a repair man and he wasn't able to diagnose it by phone. He had us hunting for a tech sheet (which we don't seem to have)... we have the manual and parts booklet but no tech sheet.

My husband seems to think it has something to do with the circuit board (Board Front Ice Maker) but we don't know for sure.

This is so incredibly frustrating. Such an expensive fridge... only 4 months off warranty and Sears said, you're on your own. We live in a small community and have no repair person in town and finding someone to come is next to impossible.

Anyways, it must be something somewhat common for you to have the exact same problem. Please keep in touch if you are able to find anything out and I will do the same via this board.

Hi there! If you scroll down to the bottom of this page, you will see two other postings noting a similar problem to ours. They offer a solution and it would seem that they might be right (gosh I hope so). By the looks of things, the HV Board needs to be replaced. We're going to order the part from the link on one of the postings and will keep our fingers crossed that it will fix our problem. I'll let you know what happens.

Hi Mark,
Our Sears part still has not arrived -- it should have yesterday... and we cannot get one of the parts as listed on the DIY site you found... so we are still in limbo. What's the verdict for you -- did your repair guy show up and what did he say?

After lots of research (thanks to very helpful people out there who have shared their stories and information), we replaced the HV Control Board (at the back of the fridge) and it completely fixed all of the problems we were having with our fridge. The part cost $179 and my husband installed it in under 10 minutes. I'm saving the old control board in case someday in the future we win our fight with Sears about the faulty board. Again, our sincere thanks for all of the support and help. I hope this helps someone as well.

Well I to have the same issue. Have disconnected the 3 pin cable in the front HV board to stop the annoyance. Have looked at the rear HV board and discovered the 2 black capacitors in the top left corner are probably blown out. Should be able to replace them by soldering new ones in there place. I have warranty still and service guy coming out to fix it this week. Will give him proper hell and hopefully get Sears to look into the problem. Will keep you all posted.
