I have a 3 year old Kenmore Elite side by side and am having ice maker problems. I have had Sears out 3 times now to fix it over the last 3 years and now they tell me it is out of warranty and they want $225 to fix it! Same problem each time. I wish this was a car, I would try to get it taken care of under the lemon laws of my state!

Anyway, sorry for the rant. What is it doing you ask? Well, it fills just fine and freezes the cubes just fine. It then just stops and will not empty the tray into the bin. I can hear what sound like a tiny motor running but nothing happens. Should I just replace the module or replace the whole darn thing and be done with it?

The 3 times the Sears tech has come out, all he has done is replace the module. One time he blamed it on a power spike of some sort, the next time he said the ice maker was not level enough, even though the refirgerator is leveled exactly as the manual shows, and the last time he had no idea but tried real hard to sell me a $217 1 year extended warranty!

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

My Kenmore model 106 is only 2 weeks old and I am having the same problem. It started when I noticed an ice cube stuck in one of the teeth. I gently dislodged the ice cube, but the ice maker has not been the same since. It dumps ice now only about once an hour (it used to fill up the entire bin in couple hours). The rest of the time it just sits there with frozen water in it. Maybe it's my imagination but around the time I found the stuck ice cube I thought I smelled something akin to a faint hot smell, like maybe the motor was burning out a bit? I can't be sure about that though. Have you learned anymore about the problem with yours? Thanks. M.Casold.
