Default Kenmore bottom freezer/fridge
Brand: Kenmore
Model Number: 795.65002402
Age: 1 - 4 years

hi i dont know if you can help us or not. I have a fridge that the bottom freezer is staying frozen. I havent put anything in it recently to freeze so i dont know if it will freeze fresh things properly. The top fridge isnt staying cold like it should be. We removed the back lower panel and blew out the coils and the fan runs. When we unplug it and then plug it back in it will sound liek it is starting then it will make a click noise and then sound like its not running anymore but the fan keeps running. any suggestions on what it might be or do i need to call a repair man to come look at it and tell me it cant be fixed or charge alot to fix it. thank you so much

I think "795." is made by Maytag. Your model is known for bad compressors. You can try replacing the start relay (electrical component on the compressor). If that doesn't start the compressor it's dead. Compressors aren't a do-it-yourself jobs. There are many special tools needed. You'll need to call someone. Be prepared comressor replacements aren't cheap.

Remove the back wall of the freezer and you will see the evaporator and ice build up on it. If it's a lot check the defrost timer, defrost heater and or defrost thermostat. I couldn't tell from the number your gave but newer models don't have a timer but have a solid state board that controls the time for defrost.

i will have to have my significant other check it out tomorrow since i dont know how to take the back wall off. it has been unplugged for 14 hours now. the ice that was on the back wall of the freezer has thawed out.. what i was wondering is if some ice were in there would it thaw on its own? if so when could i try pluggin it back in and trying it again?

Yes it will thaw on it's own and probably run a week or three before it quits again. You can also use a hair dryer to melt it until it's fixed.

hi woodchuck.. thank you i plugged in my fridge for about thirty minutes this morning the humming from the fridge started and stayed on. the lower fan in the back came on and stayed on .. the freezer got nice and cold but the fridge stayed warm and the same temp. i removed the back wall on the freezer i se the coils they are all clear. is there a fan that blows the cold air from the freezer to the fridge? could that be not working?? can i plug in the fridge with the freezer wall off to see if the coils freeze right up or is that important? should i give in and call a repair guy or are there other things we can try. thank you so much for your help you are giving to us it is greatly appreciated

hi just updating i plugged the fridge in for a few minutes and the cold air in the freezer circulates well. there is a fan in the top of the back freezer that is not spinning i am thinking it should be working for the cold air to circulate into the fridge? is this broken or maybe a connection loose? thank you again for your future help

That evaporator fan will have to run for the freezer and fridge to cool properly. They won't run in defrost cycle and some stop when you open the door. Check it here. Refrigerator Repair Guide: How To Test the Evaporator Fan - ACME HOW TO.com

thank you.. so now i need to find the defrost timer i think. and unfortunately i cannot find any literature on this refrigerator online anyplace.. do you know where the defrost parts are located on this machine. if i am understanding things correctly the fan wont run ( it will turn freely if i move it ) if the defrost is stuck. is that correct? any ideas where i might find literature on this make and model? its as if they put the wrong model number in or its because its a kenmore made by maytag
