Default Kemore Elite won't turn back on
Brand: Kenmore
Model Number: 106.53206202
Age: 5 - 10 years

This fridge has been great.. until today. I replaced the water filter and tried to reset the filter reminder.. no go. SO.. I tried turning it off. It has a touch pad system inside the fridge side at the top that has an on/off switch. I figured this might reset the system. Instead the fridge turned off, but won't turn back on! I can't find the owner's manual to see if there's a reset somewhere, but am I missing something or did this thing just go stupid on me?

I have a Hotpoint refrigerator with automatic defroster and a top freezer. Water comes down into the refrigerator below instead of draining into the pan below.

thanks for replying bill, but your reply is unrelated. Is there any way to test the electronic control board before buying a new one for $200+?? Christmas is coming and the fridge is warming up. I have family coming and I'd like to avoid living out of a cooler on the deck. At least it isn't summer! 28degrees and snowing now.

Your drain tube must be stopped up with ice at the upper end because it drains too slow because it's stopped up at the lower end in the evaporator pan under the unit at the floor. It can get dust and mold in it. Once you get the ice out at the top a little air pressure will usually clear it out. Flush it out with hot water and clorox may help. Make sure it drains quick enough. The drain should be located below the evaporator coils on the lower back of the freezer.

If you know who made your kenmore try one of these.• Frigidaire - press and hold the reset button on the dispenser until the green light flashes (up to 15 seconds).
• GE and Hotpoint - press and hold the reset water filter button on the dispenser for 3 seconds.

Let's back up and start over... As I stated this is NOT an icemaker problem. Since it is a 106 prefix, it's built by whirlpool. the problem appears to be in the electronic touchpad control at the top of the refrig side of my side-by-side. There is a water reset button, which I pressed and held, but nothing happened. Since the fridge is 8 yrs old, I've obviously done this many times. this time... no luck. Since I'm used to Microsoft... I figured the next thing to try was to turn it off and then back on. The touch pad does have an on/off button. I pressed and held the on/off button till it shut off, waited about 15sec. then tried to turn it back on. NO LUCK. Now all my food is on the deck in boxes (it's about 20 out) and the fridge still wont turn on. I don't have the instruction manual anymore, is there any way to reset this system that I can't find? Is there any way to test the control board before I plunk down $200+ for a new one HOPING that will fix it? I can replace the control board myself, that's no problem. I just don't want to scramble to find one on Christmas eve day, just to find I've wasted my money and there was a reset button somewhere! I know this is a somewhat specific problem, but can ANYONE Help??
