Default same problem jenn air jcd 2389ges

I'm very interested in the answer to your question as I have same model and age and the exact day yours stopped working mine has also got the same problem - ice cold freezer but warm refrig. and yes for about a week or two made some strange noises. I have checked the back of mine, condesor fan is operating. I took apart the top control panel, I see an item that looks like a thermocouple but guessing it isn't called that - but I think it detects temp in refig. The item is a robert shaw control rd 24-2014 or 78206-14. I don't think its the defrost board as the freezer is fine and there is no water in the condensation tray indicating the board is trying to defrost. Help from anyone is greatly appreciated!!!

For both of you, pull back panel off the freezer and check for frost. If frost, defrost with hair dryer and check the defrost heater resistance, if ok, probably a bad defrost thermostat. You probably have an adaptive defrost pc board that may be bad if everything checks out ok.
Go to www.appliancwaid.com for instructions to force defrost to check if board is bad.

Smile Jenn-Air JSD2789ATW

I have the same problem with a Jenn-Air JSD2789ATW. I metered the heater element and the thermocouple and both are ok. I am focusing in on the adaptave defrost assembly and was looking for a way to test it. I found your link in the above post and could not get it to come up. I then realized that it was a typo (appliancwaid.com) and the correct web site is applianceaid.com I found what I was looking for. Thank you very much!!

Okay. I could not locate the coils to thaw them out. My unit is a counter depth mondel and does not have a back panel other then the one at the bottom by the compressor. So instead I went ahead tested the defrost control board and all the relay did was buzz and did not click. This was the sound I had heard a few times before over the past months. So I bought a new board locally to try and get it running and it does not seem to be working. Do I need to unplug the fridge and let is sit? Or are the coil inside the unit somewhere to check them?

I have the same problem with a Kenmore fridge - we have defrosted and it worked for a few weeks - now is doing the same thing. Do you think it is the thermostat?

PWATTS,
The air can not pass thru the coils if they are covered with frozen condensation. I believe you will have to defrost the freezer by unplugging the unit and letting it melt on its own if you can not find the coils. In my case I put all of the frozen food in the fridge side to keep things cool while I used a blow drier to melt the ice off of the coils. Be sure to turn off the freezer while you do this. It took me about 15 minutes to accomplish this. Good time to clean out the old forgotten freezer burned stuff from last year....

WMAXEDON,
That is the same thing I was going thru. The time it takes to freeze up again depends upon how much humidity is in your house and how often you open it up. I finaly gave up and figured something was not working. I replaced the adaptive defrost assy and that seems to have done the trick. Good luck with your endeavor.
