Default Freezer Cold, Fridge Room Temp. JennAir JCD2389GES

Side by Side JennAir JCD2389GES, just over 5 yrs old. Similar Problems as others that have posted: funny noises for a few weeks, and now freezer works fine, but fridge is room temp. Can someone take me through a step-by-step process of diagnosing as well as what to do after that. People have kindly left some steps, but I dont know where a lot of the parts are. Please...I'm starving!

Check your manual damper control, see if it is jammed closed. Make sure your light bulb goes out in fridg.
If ok, remove freezer back panel and check for frost. If frozen, defrost and and while cold check defrost thermostat, a little round thing clipped to evaporator coil. Post results.

the defrost heater is clipped to the evaporator coils and it appears to be connected the way it should be...you said it might be "open" i'm not quite sure what that means and how do i know if its open? and if it is, how do i close it?

Should be around 30 ohms. Defrost thermostat while cold should be shorted, near zero ohms.
