Post Jenn Air S by S - not defrosting- coils
Brand: Jenn-Air
Model Number: JCD2389GEW
Age: 5 - 10 years

Coming to my wit's end with continually defrosting the coils with blowdryer.
Had repairman come a while back & he replaced defrost thermostat & heater I belive.
Problem resumed, after 60 days thus no warrenty (spent $300) & was not about to pay that again.
I turned to your very helpful site & thus ordered both a SUB 61005988 (DEFROST ASSY., ADAPTIVE) board & a Defrost Heater and Thermostat Assembly after reading many helpful posts on frosted coils.
I unfortunately still have the problem after installing both parts.
Please provide some guidance as to how & what to test?
Cold air does blow into the frig till it gets choked by the coils after 5 or 6 days at which point I once again take out the blowdryer.
I have a meter & can test but do not know how.

Thank you,
Roman

Your owners manual should tell how to force it into defrost mode with the board to test the heater and defrost thermostat.

Ok Can you please direct me to the right service manual to purchase?
Jenn Air
Model # JCD2389GEW
Serial # 10509587ZF

L1 wire I know but what is test wire? Which color?Thank you
Another post for same problem.
Can I test the heater by the following?
Unplug the fridge and remove the light shield and the temperature control housing.
Connect the refrigerator to a watt meter.
Make sure the compressor is running.
Using and insulated number 22 jumper wire short between L1 and test, this will put the refrigerator into a defrost for approximately 23 minutes.
The watt meter should read between 500 to 600 watts depending on the model.
If you don't have a watt meter you will have to watch for the heater to come on.
Make sure the freezer is cold so the bi metal is closed or this will not work.

That does sound like the instructions. Each model may be a little different, so I don't know which is test. Like it said you can just watch the heater to see if it works and not have to do the other disassembly.
