Default Jenn Air not cooling properly
Brand: Jenn-Air
Age: 5 - 10 years

This counter depth Jenn Air side by side has ice above the ice maker usually, now it is dripping but freezer is still frozen adn the refer is not cooling enough.

Can the controls in the top of the refer (slide type) be converted to electronic and do I need a defrost timer or?
Thank you

If you see frost on the back panel of freezer, you have a defrost problem. Pull out back panel of freezer and check. If coils all frozen up you will need to defrost the coils

Jenn Air Model # JCD2389GEW or JCD2389GE*
I have defrosted the coils, totally iced in. Working again now.
Is this a sign that I need a new defrost/thermostat or just 6 years of continual use without a defrost? I see that this is a easy replacement if I need one.

Go to partselect to find your defrost timer, then turn to defrost. If defrost works, you need a new defrost timer, if not, probably a bad defrost thermostat.

Check partselect for fridg. assembly info, but this fridge has an adaptive defrost pc board probably in the upper section of the refrigerator. To put it into defrost you short L1 to test pins on the board connector, a little difficult to do.
Basically, if the defrost thermostat+ heater test good, the pc board is bad.
