Default Jenn-Air fridge won't cool and freezer won't freeze
Brand: Jenn-Air
Model Number: JSD2789GES
Age: 1 - 4 years

The fridge was cycling between 56 and 60 degrees when on the coldest setting. The Freezer was at about 23 degrees.
I took the back panel off in the freezer side to reveal the frozen coils...which I have defrosted. The fridge now won't get below 70...
The freezer is back down into the mid 20's.

The fans are now blowing but it isn't going to keep our food from spoiling!

Is there a thermal fuse or reset switch that I need to reset?
What should I check next?

Your fridge temp control is supposed to open a damper or vent for the cold air from freezer to enter the fridge. Check to see if it is open. The fan in the freezer blows the air through it.

You may also have a defrost issue if you had to melt the ice buildup.

Spent a couple of hours defrosting and cleaning things out. All vents are clear and all ice is gone...

Tuttletime, let me help you on this. You have a defrost problem. That is a maytag made product. What you need to do is replace the adaptive defrost control. It is in the refrigerator section. Up top in the back. The whole housing comes off. It is a electronic control board that will be your problem. The part # is 61005988. I would also replace the defrost thermostat also, just for good measure. The defrost thermostat is inexpensive. If you don't have a part house in your town, these good people at Part Select can help you. If you need me to walk you through the repair, you can reach me on my web site at ApplianceEducator.com Tom

Thanks!

You have confirmed my suspicions and the parts are cheaper than a service call diagnosis. I will give it a try!
