Default Intermittent problems with frig....
Brand: General Electric
Age: 5 - 10 years

I have aGE side by side which is working correctly intermittently. When it's working, everything works great. Then every couple days the following happens: things in the bottom of the refrigerator freeze, and things in the top of the freezer thaw. The ice maker will also stop making ice. Anybody have any ideas. I had a repairman come out but naturally, it was working fine that day and he couldn't find anything wrong. Thanks.

You have the GE fridg with the infamous "mother" board in the back. You will need a meter to check this out.
From the symtoms, you could have a bad mother board. I fixed one once with a bad solder joint on the back of the board. Might be a good idea to check yours.
If you have a meter post, that info.

I do have a meter. What am I checking and what am I looking for? Also, can I check this any time or only when it's not working?

When it fails, check the damper door , inside a white box on the left side of fridg. and verify is is not jammed shut. If ok
pull the mother board out, it's in the back, and check solder joints for the relays on the board.
If ok, go to www.applianceguru.com/forum1/3075.html and print out the file.
Per the scematic, check all the thermistors and voltages to evaporator motor and condensing motor, if ok, just replace the board pn wr55x10552
