Question Icemaker Very Slow
Brand: Kenmore
Model Number: 253.7480240E
Age: Less than 1 year

I just bought the floor model Kenmore refridgerator for my basement. It came with an icemaker installed, but no owner manual.

I hooked up the icemaker using a kit from HomeDepot. Water is definitely flowing(didn't have some things tight at first so had some spraying). The water line goes from the house pipe through a GE water filter and then to the fridge using copper tubing. There are no kinks in the tubing.

The icemaker makes ice, but super slowly and it appears that it doesn't fill up all the cube bins. It has 7 bins and it looks like it is only filling the first 5 or 6. I looked around for a valve on the fridge that may control flow to the tray. Don't see any.

Last night it appeared to only make 2 trays of ice in 8 hours.

Thoughts?

I just went down and turned off the water and unscrewed the copper line from the fridge. Put the end in a buck and turned the water back on. Water flowing just fine. There was a very slight kink in the copper line which I fixed, but it was flowing fine with the kink.

So it's gotta be something in the fridge itself.

Check the freezer temp. Should be below 15 degrees for proper icemaker function.
Use a "cheater" cord and plug in icemaker solenoid for 9 seconds. Solenoid in back of refrigerator. The icemaker mold should fill up all the way. If not remove icemaker front panel and turn the tiny plastic screw clockwise a little. Be carefull not to turn it too much. This should increase ice cube size.

I'm just a Harry homeowner, so I really don't know what a soleniod is. But I will check for the plastic screw adjustment you mentioned.

Thanks,
-Kirk

Looked for means to take the front of the icemaker off. Seems like it is screwed into the unit with screw heads facing away from front. So I couldn't access the screw you mentioned.
