Default Icemaker Problem
Brand: Kenmore
Model Number: 22 Porcelain Plus
Age: More than 10 years

Hello:
The tube inside of the freezer that runs from the water supply line to the icemaker keeps filling up with ice and freezing up. If I thaw it out with a hair dryer it will work for a week or so then freeze up again. I suspect the solenoid is leaking allowing water to trickle in, but I'd like another opinion before I spend the fifty bucks. Everything else seems to work ok. I I fill the ice maker with water it will make ice just fine.
Thanks.

I also believe your water inlet valve is leaking.

Looking at the schematic for this refrigerator, I don't see any other valve in the supply line other than the solenoid valve.

Give me a break on the scematics guys. Depawl, Pull out the refrigerator, and where the water supply comes in through the back of the refrigerator into the freezer up top, put some plumbers putty there, and that will stop, exterior air flow from comming into the freezer. That should take care of your problem Tom

Tom:
Thanks for the advice. I've applied plumber's putty as you suggested, and will let you know in a few days if the problem has been solved.

If you have a problem after that replace the water valve. Tom

I have the same symptoms with a Kenmore (GE) fridge. I had thought about both the supply valve leakby and air inleakage at the supply line into the freezer. Which fixed it for you?
