Default Icemaker overfilling - spilling water
Brand: Kenmore
Model Number: 363.8597710
Age: More than 10 years

Recently I removed and gently cleaned our icemaker unit after seeing small black flecks in the ice. After reinstalling it, it does make ice, but it seems that too much water is being let into it, since I see water coming out of the ice chute, accumulating in the ice bin, and spilling into the freezer. Since I can't leave the unit open to watch an entire cycle, I don't know if it's putting too much water in at once, or if it's letting water in too frequently, or what. I've turned off the water supply to avoid leakage and spills for now. Does anyone know how the unit determines how much water should go in? Is there a float valve or something that might have gotten stuck when I was cleaning the unit? Thanks - it's getting hot in Georgia and we need ice!

Are the ice cubes uniform in shape?

Check the installation of the ice maker. If it is tilted a little this may be a problem.

The timer motor regulates the amount of water that come in. So unless the motor is stalling when it is in the fill mode it is unlikely to be that.
