Default Icemaker overfilling into ice
Brand: Amana
Model Number: SXD22S2L
Age: More than 10 years

My icemaker overfills the icemaker when it fills and water goes into the ice bin and melts all of the ice together. You can watch it fill and when you think it should shut off it keeps going for another 3 or 4 seconds and all of the extra water goes into the ice. Is there a timer or a switch that is supposed to shut of the water solenoid when it is full? What do I need to look at to fix this problem Thanks.

It sounds like the fill valve at the back of the fridge where the water line is hooked is sticking or there is a restriction in the water line causing low pressure at the valve.

The valve is closed with water pressure.

Turn the water off and remove the water line from the fridge.

Hold the link in a bucket and have someone turn the water on and check the flow.

If the flow is good then you will have to replace the fill valve.

If you have poor water flow it could be the shut off valve in your water line that is causing your problem.

Here is a link to your fridge model SXD22S2L.

I'll check the water flow, but what tells the valve there is enough water in the icemaker and it is time to close? Is it something in the icemaker itself? Sheila, thanks for pointing me in the right direction. I'll see what I come up with.

It is a timed. The power is applied to the valve for about 5 seconds.

This allows about 78 cc of water into the ice maker.

The water flow is good. The solenoid valve isn't hanging open. There is power to it the whole time it is on. It closes as soon as the power is removed. Where is the timer? Is it in the icemaker itself? It is filling the ice tray and then adding right at 1/3 of a cup extra water. Thanks.

The timer is in the ice maker.

If the valve is closing when the power is disconnect then no more water should enter the ice maker.

The valve must be sticking opened for a few seconds.

There may be a small piece of dirt in the valve.

No more water is coming out once the valve closes. The timer must be staying on too long. Is the timer a part that can be bought and replaced?

There do not list the module of your icemaker as a separate part.

Here is a link on how to test your ice maker.
