Unhappy Icemaker noisy - can't shut off!
Brand: Kenmore
Model Number: 61881
Age: More than 10 years

I don't know how old this refrig is. It came with my rental unit. The outside of the refrig is textured and it is a cream color. The built in icemaker (not an in the door kind) has an arm that raises and lowers. I don't know if the up or down position is supposed to turn it off. I have tried both positions and the high-pitched noise from the icemaker is still going, indicating to me that it is still running. Please, how do I get it to shut off? The racket is going to make me crazy! The icemaker was never connected to a water line, so it doesn't actually make ice.

The bar should be in the up position to be off.

The noise may be the fan.

When the compressor shut off does the noise stop?

Question Noisy Ice Maker in prehistoric refrig

The arm is in the up position. I notice the noise is intermittent - off and on. When it is on, i.e. making racket, it does it for a while then shuts off for a while. What does this mean?

PS: Thanks for your help..........

If the ice maker is in the off position it should not make any noise.

Does the noise stop when the compressor stops running.
