When the unit is running do hear the fan running in the freezer?, and do you have a frost build up on the back wall off the freezer? You can reach me at my web site at ApplianceEducator.com Tom

Here is a link to your unit
TFHW22R Parts List

You may have to remove the cover to see if your coils are iced up.
If the freezer does not defrost ice builds up on the coils so you do not get efficient cooling and the compressor runs constantly.

You could unplug the unit and defrost it using a hair dyer. If it runs OK after you do this then you have a defrost problem.
The burnt smell would indicate a fried part where the coils are.

Hi Moss

We just had the same problem with our Kenmore. Repairman came out and had to replace the relay compressor - cost of $75. At first it was just soft ice cream - within one day all the ice in icemaker was melting - within two more days, the refrigerator started to warm up too. Now, all seems to be working perfectly. Good luck, let us know what happens!
