Default Ice/water in the freezer
Brand: Please select
Age: Please select

Hi. I've got a GE fridge (top freezer - GTA18JBNBBB). A layer of ice appears on the bottom of the freezer roughly once a day (I remove it whenever i see it). Based on what I've read on the internet, the drain tube is either clogged or frozen. The problem is, I have no idea how to locate it and what it looks like. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

The drain is in the drain tray probably at the back. You should see it when cleaning the ice out. The drain emptys into a tray under the fridge. Thats usually where it gets partially stopped up. You can blow some air through it to clear it and pour some bleach through it to kill the mold etc. that stops it up.

If you could the best way to take care of the problem is shut the refrigerator off for 24 hours, with the doors open, and what I would like you to look at is, make sure the front of the refrigerator is higher then rear. So when you let go of the refrigerator door, it closes by itself. If you need me I could be reached at T. PAONE's APPLIANCE SALES & SERVICE GUIDE Tom

Thanks for the reply. Now, there is a good chance I'm gonna sound real stupid, but oh well, here it goes:

I'm not sure what you mean by "cleaning the ice out" because I've never
cleaned any ice out" and there has never been any ice in my freezer except for the last couple of days.

In any case, I think I have located what appears to be the drain. I detached it and the tube itself looks clean - not the whole thing, because it probably goes all the way back up to the freezer. It's only the bottom of the back of my fridge that I have an access to. Anyway, just to clarify what you said, do you pour bleach through the drain from the bottom? Like I said, I can only reach the bottom end of the drain.

Thanks again.

Default the door is fine...

Thanks for the tip. I'll give this a try if everything else doesn't work because I've got lots of food in my fridge so I'll have to eat it all first. The door closes by itself.

Again, shut the box down so the ice in the freezer drain can melt, and make sure the front of the refrigerator is higher then the rear. You better get it done, mama is going to smack the living daylights out of you. T. PAONE's APPLIANCE SALES & SERVICE GUIDE Tom
