Question Ice / Water Dispensing Issue
Brand: General Electric
Model Number: GE GSH22JSRE
Age: 1 - 4 years

Hi,
I am having a Ice / Water Dispensing Issue with my GE GSH22JSRE Refrigerator. The ice maker makes ice, the Ice basket is not blocked at the bottom and there is water coming to the unit.

When I put a glass under the dispenser it will always light up but will not always provide water or Ice. The probability of getting water is much higher than getting ice. When no water is despensed I have checked to see that the line was not frozen at the end where water is dispensed.

If I open and close the fridge door it will sometimes work. Other times I jiggle the Ice basket and I may get some water/ice.

I unplugged the unit for 1 min to reset it but that did not work. Do you have any ideas?

Thanks in advance.

Jeff-

The actuator switch is probably worn or loose. Here is a diagram and parts list that may help. Remove the cover by gently prying it off exposing the screws to access other parts. GSH22JSRE Parts List

Thanks Woodchuck.
I will give it a look on Saturday morning and post back the results. I have a follow-up question if you happen to check this out before then:

How will I know if the switch is worn? I will open up the unit and make sure that the switch is securely connected to the funnel ice dispenser bk and housing shield display. If this does not fix the issue do I assume that the switch is worn or is there something to look for on the switch when I have the unit open to tell me that it is worn.

Thanks again for your time.

If it's not loose connections causing the intermittent operation then it would be the mechanical part of the switch inside. It may have more than normal play in it.

Woodchuck,
I took a look at the switch over the weekend and the connections looked fine. I was able to take off the front pannel and remove the switch from the little clip that holds it in place to inspect it. I will order a new switch and post back the results once I install the new switch. (better off trying the new switch for $10 before I call for service).

Thanks again.
