Default Ice/water dispenser repair
Brand: Kenmore
Model Number: 106.56924600
Age: 1 - 4 years

I'm looking for advice or online instructions to re-install the 3 or 4 inch pin and spring on the ice dispenser door flap located on the front of the refrigerator. The pin and spring came off, leaving the flap loose, causing frost build-up in my freezer side of my refrigerator. Recommendations welcome...thanks

Double check your model number. It doesn't match a model.

Default wrong serial #

Thanks Woodchuck...I'll verify the serial #. I did figure out how to remove the dispenser, etc. and solved my problem. Thanks again!

check and see if one of the plastic tabs that supports the pin up inside the housing didnt break off.If so, may be covered under warranty.depending on model. There is a kit available to repair but a little tricky first time..

Default Ice/water dispenser repair

Ghunter,

Thanks for the valuable information. I found a diagram of the assembly online. The plastic (fragile) bracket that holds the pin and spring did crack off. Miraculously, I was able to glue it on with "Gorilla Glue". I'm amazed that it's held for three days.

Sears designed that bracket into the housing plate for the dispenser. According to Sears online parts site. That exterior tray has been discontinued and is no longer available...imagine that!

My fridge is two years old, so I'm assuming it would be out of warranty. Are you saying that Sears might warrant that piece due to "faulty" design, such as a "recall" item on a vehicle?

One other question: the center wall between the freezer and refrigerator is unusually hot to touch, not inside the fridge but on the metal face plate that would be exposed if you open either side. It doesn't burn your fingers but is hot. This has been a problem almost from day one and now I'm sorry that I didn't get a repairman out while it was under warranty. Any ideas?

Thanks again!

some kenmores were covered under service flash[recall] by sears.the hot center rail probaly due to fan in rear of unit down by compressor not running.may only be something caught in fan blade[paper or mouse] or may be deffective motor.pull off rear cover to check. If motor is a white ceramic looking material its probably a deffective motor.

Ghunter,

Thanks again! I'll check to see if there is an option for a free part replacement on the icemaker, and I'll check the blower out as well...that could be it
