Default Ice Maker or Water Inlet Valve
Brand: Amana
Model Number: SXD22S2W
Age: 5 - 10 years

My ice maker seems to be over filling. Ice is sticking together in bin etc. I've adj the water on ice maker as low as it will go one turn. It is allowing 12 oz of water to fill maker. Makes ice fine other than that. How do I determine which part is bad, ice maker or water inlet valve?

Thanks
DJ

Basically it is an educated guess. I would replace the water valve, because the ice maker tells the valve when, and how long to fill, and the water valve delivers. The valve might be getting weak, and staying open to long. You can reach me at my web site at ApplianceEducator.com Tom

I just ohmed the inlet valve and it reads 335 on both solenoids, does this not mean the valve is good?

Yes

The multitester should display a reading of 200 to 500 ohms. Close inspection of the inlet valve and especially the coil may reveal the exact ohm resistance rating to test for.
Ice Maker Repair Guide: How To Test the Inlet Switch - ACME HOW TO.com The problem is probably in the ice maker control module. There is a diagnostic test here.

Question What does the 3rd wire plug in to?

My water inlet valve on my frigidaire refrigerator (model #FRS26W2AW3) has 2 plugs that goes into it. One is yellow and the other is green. When I looked at the back of my unit I noticed another plug that was brown in color. It was not plugged in to anything, just laying there. What is this plug for and does it need to be plugged in to anything? No water is going into the hose that leads to the icemaker. I'm wondering could this be the problem?................. Please help somebody!!!!

Sometimes there are extra wires in a wiring harness it could be for another model.

Have you tried swapping the wires which plug into the solenoid at the inlet valve.

This way the water dispenser should send water to the ice maker and you'll know if the valve and line are good.

Both valves are good. You had water from the water valve before you swapped the wires. With wires swapped you sent water through the ice maker valve.

The ice maker is the problem. Try putting the wires back correctly and add water manually to see if the ice maker will start cycling.

Here's diagram and parts list for your ice maker

allow me to start in the beginning
first I changed the valve because the old valve was not stopping throwing water from the ice maker.
when I installed the new valve only the drinking water was working .
the ice maker had no water, so I did the change of wires
now i get water on the line going into the ice maker,
3 hrs later the water is frozen in the ice maker, and no ice in the tray.
does this mean the ice maker is no good?
