Default Ice maker stopped making ice
Brand: Kenmore
Age: 1 - 4 years

ice maker stopped making ice. My model 106.54602300 has an electronic eye to tell if the ice bin is full. In the past I had to open up the swing door in front of the ice maker to expell
ice cubes that interfere with the rotating fingers that eject the ice into the bin. My
problem started when the rotating fingers looked like they were in the ice tray or on top of the cubes and it wasn't making any more ice. So I removed the the whole ice assembly from the freezer and removed the ice from the tray by using
hot water. Rotating fingers are still in the tray. I don't know if this means anything but while I was cleaning the whole assy, the tray under the mold tray had about 3/8 inch of ice in it. Please note this is the first time since new thay this assy has been cleaned. So I put the assy back in the freezer and in about 15 minutes I heard the fingers rotate back to their original position. Checked the mold for water, but no water in the mold tray. Then I checked the solenoid in the back of the fridge by hot wiring the solenoid using the front water dispenser. Operated the front dispenser and the solenoid worked and water appeared in the tray. Water added manually in tray and probably not the correct level. Waited for awhile for water to freeze, which it did. Fingers are still in the same position as to when I put the assy back in the freezer and ice cubes still in the mold tray. Any suggestions will be appreiciated. Thanks

It could be the control board for the ice maker that has failed.

To check the emitter open the freezer door and activate the door switch three times, and close the door for 2 seconds.

Open the freezer door and check the watch the light on the receiver.

It should blink twice and pause then blink twice.

If this does not happen the board is bad.

Also check to make sure that the eye does not have frost on it.

Default ice maker problems

Thank you for replying. With the door open the flap like switch on the left side opens telling the ice maker that the door is open. The red eye on the right side
blinks twice and pauses like you suggested. When I close the flap like switch
(simulating that the freezer door is now closed) the red eye on the right stays lite.
I tried testing the heater by using an ohm meter. Using L and H, I don't get a reading between 60 and 90 ohms, could this cause the whole ice maker to shut down? Thanks
