My icemaker started pouring water out and would not automatically shut off. I heard something that sounded like a sizzle and pulled the bottom drawer out. I could see the coil in the back glowing red hot and sizzling where water was dripping on it. I raised the lever to turn the ice maker off manually and unplugged the refrigerator for a while. When I replugged the unit and dropped the lever to fill the ice tray, nothing happens. Any ideas as to what might be wrong.

The coil in the back that was glowing red hot was the defrost heater.

The fridge must have been going through a defrost cycle when you open the drawer.

With the ice maker it is likely a faulty valve at the back of the fridge.
