Cool Ice maker not working
Brand: Whirlpool
Model Number: ED5LHAXMQ
Age: 1 - 4 years

Purchase frig in May 2004. May 2006, spline key broke on motor(service man replaced motor unit). Aug. 2006 , not working again. replaced ice tray, finish was peeling off. I took ice maker out twice in last two days and cleaned completely. Quit working after few cylcles, both times. Can i get a repair manual on line? Why do they have to put a plastic finish on the tray. Why not make out of nylon or??

thanks for any help!

Smile Ice maker not working

I am answering my own question since i think i found out what was causing the problem. On the right end of the ice tray is a little "funnel" that sits under the water supply tube. On the back of this funnel is a little tab that has a half-moon groove in it. It was sitting on the inside of the ice tray wall. It should be on the outside of the wall. The ice cube on the far right end was hitting this tab when the "comb" would come around to gather the cubes. Since they are all attached together by a little ice, it was stopping the comb from revolving around to dump the cubes. I had to carefully place the tab on the little funnel on the right side of the tray wall. I will wait and see. I believe when the service man was here he accidentally put the tab on the inside, because he had to replace the comb and the tray.
