Default Ice Maker Not Producing Ice
Brand: Amana
Model Number: BCI21VW
Age: 5 - 10 years

We recently acquired a used Amana refrigerator in which the ice maker was observed to be working fine before it was stored for a couple weeks before being moved to my home.

After I had it a week or so I picked up an ice maker water supply kit to take advantage of the ice maker. After installing the copper tubing it did begin to work and produced a few cubes.

I kept an eye on the back or the refrigerator for any leaks and noticed that I had a small leak on copper tube fitting that I had installed. After tightening and fixing this leak I noticed that I was also getting a leak at the top end of the plastic tubing going into the ice maker fill tube elbow. This happened whenever the valve open to fill the ice maker.

After playing with this connection trying to get it not to leak when the valve opened, I was beginning to get the feeling that the tube may be blocked with ice inside the freezer. This would explain why I may be getting the leak, which I suspect is due to back pressure since the water can't get though the tube elbow.

I've tried to remove the tube elbow to inspect it and perhaps thaw it out, but I cannot figure how to get it out. I can't seem to get it out without a lot of force. Perhaps it's due to the ice that may be in it. In any case I don't want to damage anything in trying. Any help would be appreciated.

Also, if this tube is blocked with ice, what would have caused it to do so?

Thanks,

Stan
