Ice Maker Not Making Ice Several situations can lead to the noted problems.
1) See if there is a fuse on the power line to the icemaker which needs replaced.
2) The thermostat in the ice mold may be defective
3) The heater in the mold may be defective
When any of the above conditions exist, the ice made in the mold will not move out. The mold actually 'heats' the ice a little so the ejector arm can push it out of the mold. One trick to use to determine if all but these parts are working is just put a hair dryer on low heat and run along the length of the mold. In a minute or two, you should see the ice start to melt a little and the ejector arm will move through the mold and push the ice out. No movement? Likely the motor then.
Cost of fuse - $5
" " thermostat - $20 (you may need a special adhesive for this too)
" " mold & heater - $60
" " complete ice maker unit - $135
All costs are approximate. I needed a new mold & heater. I decided to just get the complete unit as all separate parts I needed were only $20 less than replacing the entire ice maker. |
