Default Ice maker not making enough ice
Brand: Whirlpool
Model Number: ED5PHEXRO00
Age: 1 - 4 years

Hello,
This is a follow-up to my question last week regarding the slow ice production of my ice maker. Shelia responded that I should check my freezer temp. It was at -10 degrees. Once I discovered the temp was so low, I increased it to about 0 degrees to save a little electricity. The ice is forming just fine, but it takes a long time between each ejection of the cubes.

Is there any way to decrease the time between emptyings? I read at another forum that a malfunctioning "harvest thermosat" can sometimes cause this problem. Any and all ideas will be appreciated.

Thanks,
Lee

With the freezer temperature between -2 and +5 you will get between 8 and 12 harvests in a 24 hour period.

This will also depend on the amount the fridge is opened and the ambient temperature.

How many harvests are you getting?

Hello,
Thanks for the info. Honestly, I really don't know for sure how many harvests I am getting per 24 hours. From your response it looks like I should not expect more than 1 harvest per 2 or 3 hours. That seem like very slow ice production in a -2 to +5 degree environment. We had a Whirlpool refer we bought in 1984 or '85 and the ice maker in it lasted for about 18 years and it made a whole lot more ice than this one does. I suppose they really "don't make 'em like they used to". My expectations for this ice maker are based on my previous experience with the old one.

I guess there is no way to speed up the harvest cycle???

Thanks again,
Lee
